○put one's foot in it　：　へまな事を言う、ドジを踏む

『The more you open your mouth the more likely you are to put your foot in it.』
「口は災いの元」

○skin　：　皮、皮膚

『Beauty is only skin deep.』
「美人というも紙一重」

○thick　：　濃い

『Blood is thicker than water.』
「血は水よりも濃し」


■Break Time■　−紙一重−

本日の表現で「美人も紙一重」という表現をご紹介しましたが、日常の会話でこの「紙一重」をあらわしたい場合、皆さんならどのような表現を利用されますか？
例えば「どちらとも言えない微妙な」といった意味のある『fine line』という表現を利用すれば『There is a fine line between love and hate.』「好きとキライは紙一重」なんて表現もできますね。
