○cherry blossom viewing　：　お花見

『The cherry blossom season has come. Where shall we go for cherry blossom viewing this year?』
「桜の季節だね。今年のお花見はどこでしようか？」

○secure　：　確保する、手に入れる

『That park is famous for cherry blossoms. It is necessary to secure a place for our party.』
「あの公園は桜が有名だから、場所取りをしなくちゃね。」

○fall　：　落ちる、散る

『If it rains, all the blossoms will fall to the ground.』
「雨が降ったらもう桜が散ってしまいそうだね。」


■Break Time■　−花より団子−

皆さんは今年のお花見にもう行かれましたか？
お花見では桜を楽しむのはもちろんですが、きれいな花を見ながらおいしい食べ物も楽しめるというのが良いところですよね。
「花より団子」ということわざに類似した表現を、英語では『Pudding rather than praise.』、直訳すると「賞賛よりプディング」なんてあらわすんですよ。
他の類似した表現では、『Bread is better than the songs of birds.』「鳥の歌よりパン」、『I live to eat.』「食べるために生きる」なんて表現もあります。
桜も食べ物も両方楽しめるお花見だからこそ、たくさんの人に愛され続けているのかもしれませんね。
